Zelensky: Peace Agreement 90% Ready, Remaining 10% Crucial

Published January 1, 2026, 09:11

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the peace agreement with Russia is 90% complete, but the remaining 10% is critical and will determine the outcome of peace, Ukraine, and Europe. He emphasized that Ukraine desires peace but will not accept an agreement at any cost, demanding strong security guarantees to prevent future Russian aggression. The Trump administration is attempting to mediate an agreement, but disagreements persist regarding the fate of the eastern regions, particularly Donbas, which Russia seeks to annex. Zelensky expressed doubts that Russia would limit itself to Donbas, even if Ukrainian forces withdrew. Despite the challenges, Zelensky expressed optimism about Ukraine's future and achieving a just peace.
