Worst Trade Disruptions in 80 Years, Says WTO Chief

The head of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, warned that the global trading system is experiencing the “worst disruptions in 80 years.” The statement was made at the opening of the WTO Ministerial Conference in the capital of Cameroon, amid global economic turmoil and geopolitical tensions, including the war in the Middle East. Okonjo-Iweala emphasized that the international order has changed and that the WTO faces significant challenges, such as climate change and technological developments. The conference aims to revitalize the organization and address disruptions in global trade.
