Works by Koula Savvidou

Koula Savvidou (1956-2026) was a Cypriot artist, painter and sculptor, born in London and raised in Limassol. She studied at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and began exhibiting her work in 1976, participating in significant international events such as the Biennale of Young Artists in Europe and the Mediterranean and Mediterraneo per l’ Arte Contemporanea. Savvidou's work, including sculptures made of plaster, wood, metal and found materials, is characterized by elements of surrealism and mythological references. It explores themes such as transformation, memory, motherhood and loss, raising questions about the artist's role in society. Her works are found in the State Gallery of Contemporary Art Cyprus, as well as in private and public collections both in Cyprus and abroad. The Deputy Ministry of Culture describes her art as deeply poetic, with forms that move in an intermediate area of time, memory and transformation. Savvidou was recognized for her calm generosity and dedication to her art, allowing her work to speak for itself. Her contribution to shaping the contemporary art scene of Cyprus is considered substantial and lasting.
