Work Resumed on Aykut's Encroachments, MPs Say

Members of the Refugee Committee expressed concern over the resumption of work on encroachments of properties by Simon Aykut in the occupied territories. The committee discussed Aykut's case and the government's decision to return him to Israel to serve his sentence, with the Pan-Cypriot Refugee Association, the Famagusta Refugee Movement, and the Famagusta Displaced Communities Association requesting that he remain in Cyprus. The meeting was held behind closed doors at the request of the Legal Service, with questions raised about the reason for the secrecy. According to information, work has resumed on approximately 40 properties that had been encroached upon by Aykut, while the case of Behdad Jafari, who was released by a French court, was also mentioned. MPs stressed the need to address the encroachments and protect the property of refugees.
