"Winner" is Disappointment for the Christodoulides Government and in a New Poll – AKEL Ahead

A new poll by RAI Consultants for Alpha Cyprus reveals strong dissatisfaction with the Christodoulides government, with AKEL emerging as the leading party in voting intentions. 65% of citizens state they are either “not very” or “not at all” satisfied with the President's performance, while only one-third express a positive assessment, indicating a decline in his political capital. AKEL gathers 14.8%, surpassing DISY, which follows with 14%. The Left’s lead is attributed to its stable electorate and the wear and tear on government policy. Issues such as the economy, accuracy, and corruption are causing social pressure, without – apparently – convincing the government's handling of them. The economy is the most important voting criterion for 30% of citizens, followed by the Cyprus issue (25%) and immigration (15%). These figures reflect society’s concern for everyday life and the cost of living. The poll highlights the growing influence of social media on political behaviour. The poll was conducted from February 9th to 17th, 2026, with a sample of 1,030 people aged 18 and over. The decline of the government and the rise of AKEL suggest potential changes in political balances in view of the 2026 Parliamentary Elections.
