Voice of the Homeland: Event on the 1950 Enosis Referendum

The Community Action Group of Autonomous Greeks “Voice of the Homeland” is organizing its first public event dedicated to the 1950 Enosis Referendum. The event, titled “The Desire for Union: Utopia or Survival Choice?”, will take place on January 16, 2026, in Strovolos and will examine the historical and political aspects of the referendum, as well as its connection to the contemporary challenges facing Greek Cypriots. As part of the event, Andreas Christofis will present the evolution of the Enosis movement from 1821 to 1959, while Kornilios Chatzikostas will analyze the importance of Union in comparison to current proposals for the Cyprus issue. Dr. Michalis Kontos will focus on the international environment and the threats facing Cyprus. The “Voice of the Homeland” was founded in November 2025 and aims to awaken society, preserve historical memory, and strengthen the Greek element in Cyprus, operating independently of party influences. The event is part of the group's activities to achieve these goals. The event is open to the public and invites all interested parties to participate in a discussion about the past, present, and future of Greek Cypriots.
