Videogate: Criminal Aspects Under Investigation

Following the release of the video, the Legal Service of Cyprus has ordered a criminal investigation to determine whether any criminal offenses were committed, both from the content of the video and from other related information. The investigation will examine potential violations such as corruption of public officials, influence of a competent authority, bribery, abuse of power, and money laundering. Statements have already been taken from Giorgos Lakkotrypis and Charalambos Charalambous, and Giorgos Chrysoschos is expected to testify. The investigation will also extend to other aspects of the case, beyond the video. The Police are examining the authenticity of the video, possible interventions, the authenticity of the account that posted it, and the route of the post. The Police Spokesman described the case as "very difficult and serious". Legal experts state that the content of the video creates reasonable suspicion of offenses, but establishing and proving the charges in court is a long and difficult process.
