Veterinary Services: No Compensation for Animal Transfers

The Veterinary Services express serious concern about the continued transfer of animals from infected farms, despite warnings and a ban. Movements of animals from farms in Livadia, Geri and Cheri have been reported and documented. The services confirm that no compensation will be given to farmers who violate the movement ban. Drones have been deployed for surveillance and efforts are being made to identify the owners of the animals. The situation is critical, as the foot-and-mouth disease has affected 42 cattle and sheep units, meaning more than 30,000 animals. The continuation of animal movements threatens to prolong the spread of the disease.
