US Vote for Cyprus-IMEC and Key Role in Eastern Mediterranean

The Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act was approved by the US House Foreign Affairs Committee with strong bipartisan support (45 in favor, 2 against). The bill upgrades the role of the Eastern Mediterranean as a strategic link between India, the Middle East, and Europe, supporting the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). The initiative has broad political support, with the participation of lawmakers from various parties. The goal is to strengthen US strategic relations with Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and Egypt, as well as to promote energy security and economic interconnection in the region. The bill provides for strategic dialogues, support for cross-border infrastructure and energy interconnection projects, expansion of US-Israel innovation programs, and evaluation of multilateral models of regional coordination, such as the Cypriot CYCLOPS center. The approval of the bill is considered an important step in strengthening the US presence and influence in the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as in addressing the growing influence of China in the region.
