US Condemns Synagogue Arson as 'Antisemitic Act'

The US Attorney General condemned the arson and partial destruction of a synagogue in Mississippi as a “repulsive antisemitic act.” The Beth Israel synagogue had been targeted by a Ku Klux Klan bombing in 1967. A 19-year-old is accused of starting the fire with gasoline and has been arrested, facing a potential 20-year prison sentence if convicted. The Attorney General pledged that her administration would not allow antisemitism to flourish, in contrast to the previous administration. The synagogue has historically faced threats due to its rabbi’s condemnation of racism and segregation.
