Unutilized Funds of €31 Million Returned to the State by the Refugee Resettlement Authority

The Refugee Resettlement Authority (RRA) failed to absorb its entire budget for 2025, resulting in €31 million being returned to the state. This has been a recurring issue over the past five years, with a total of €210 million remaining unutilized. The President of the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees, Nikos Kettiros, stated that these funds could have been used to address the needs of the refugee community. AKEL had proposed removing time restrictions for submitting applications to the RRA, an initiative that did not receive support from other parties. The return of the funds highlights the need to improve the absorption rate of available resources.
