UN Security Council Extends Reporting on Houthi Attacks in Red Sea

The UN Security Council has approved a resolution drafted by Greece and the United States to extend the mandate for the Secretary-General to report on Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea until July 15, 2026. The resolution passed with 13 votes in favor and 2 abstentions from Russia and China. Greece emphasized the importance of maritime security and freedom of navigation in the region, as well as its commitment to protecting commercial ships and sailors through its participation in the European Union's ASPIDES operation. The Greek delegation highlighted that the Houthis continue to pose a serious threat to international shipping.
