Uganda: Museveni Elected for 7th Term Amidst Controversy

Yoweri Museveni has been re-elected as President of Uganda for a seventh consecutive term, securing 71.65% of the vote. The election process was marred by controversy and allegations of intimidation, arrests, and abductions of political opponents, journalists, and activists. Observers from the African Union stated that these incidents undermined citizens' trust in the electoral process. Museveni's main rival, Bobi Wine, rejected the results, claiming fraud and stating he is hiding from security forces, which the police deny. Police deployed significant forces in the capital, Kampala, to prevent potential protests. Museveni's electoral victory extends his 40-year rule, which is based on control of state mechanisms. Internet access was disrupted before the election and later restored.
