Tychikos Challenges Indefinite Suspension in Court

Bishop Tychikos has today appealed to the Supreme Court of Cyprus, seeking to overturn the indefinite suspension imposed on him by the Holy Synod. This move comes four days after the Synod's decision, which had stipulated that Tychikos not appeal to the courts as a condition for lifting the suspension. The case is expected to be heard before a judge, who will decide whether Tychikos will be allowed to challenge the Synod's decision. It is worth noting that a similar attempt by a former abbot was dismissed in the past, as the court ruled that it had no jurisdiction to intervene in internal Church matters, which enjoys constitutionally guaranteed autonomy.
