Two-Hour Discussion Between Christodoulides – Descalzi Aimed at Cyprus-ENI Agreement

President Christodoulides and ENI CEO Claudio Descalzi held a thorough bilateral meeting in Rome with the aim of finalizing the Cyprus-ENI agreement for the sale of natural gas to Europe. The meeting lasted approximately two hours and included a teleconference with stakeholders in Nicosia. Both sides are seeking to complete the procedures so that the final agreement can be signed at the forum to be held in Egypt at the end of March. Cyprus wants to start selling natural gas to Europe by 2027. In parallel with the leaders' meeting, the working groups of both sides continued their consultations. President Christodoulides and Mr. Descalzi agreed to reconvene, if necessary, during the day. During the visit, President Christodoulides also met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, where they decided to start a dialogue to develop strategic cooperation between the two countries. Ms. Meloni will visit Cyprus in April for the informal European Council.
