Two Arrested in Connection with Limassol Arson Attacks

Two men, aged 28 and 33, have been remanded in custody for eight days following a request from the Limassol Police, in connection with the four arson cases that have occurred in recent months. The charges include participation in a criminal organization, conspiracy, arson, and malicious damage, with the 33-year-old also facing charges of burglary. The case is based on testimonies from an informant, a security guard, security camera footage, and telecommunications data. According to the Police, the 28-year-old's mobile phone was found near the scene of one of the arsons. The informant's testimony is considered crucial in linking the two suspects to the cases. The Police are investigating the possibility that the arsons are related to the extortion of businessmen, with the criminal organization allegedly demanding money for "protection". In case of refusal, it is alleged that they caused damage to property. The informant also named a third suspect, who is said to have traveled to Limassol to help monitor areas that were targets. The case is ongoing and the Police continue their investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the arsons and identify any accomplices. The detention of the two suspects was deemed necessary to avoid disrupting the investigation process and ensure the collection of additional evidence.
