Turkey Rejects Invitation to COSAC Meeting in Nicosia

Turkey has refused to participate in the COSAC meeting in Nicosia, which is interpreted as an indication of its intentions regarding participation in future European summits to be held under the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. Nicosia intends to invite Turkish President Erdogan and Foreign Minister Fidan to summits in the spring, but Ankara appears unwilling to respond positively. The President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, during the opening of the COSAC proceedings, stressed the importance of strengthening the European Union to serve its citizens and guarantee peace, stability and security. She highlighted the need for strategic clarity and coordinated action in an international environment characterized by challenges and disputes. Demetriou referred to the need to respect international law and resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation, making reference to Ukraine, Cyprus and other countries where sovereignty and territorial integrity are threatened.
