Turkey: Greek Cypriot Side Blocks Solution

Turkish sources state that the Greek Cypriot side is obstructing the achievement of a solution to the Cyprus issue, as it does not demonstrate a willingness to meet on the basis of the sovereign equality of the two sides. Turkey believes that the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU before the resolution of the Cyprus issue was a mistake. Turkish sources claim that in all previous settlement plans, Turkey and the pseudo-state had a positive attitude, while the Greek Cypriot side rejected them. In addition, they state that the Greek Cypriot side is exploiting its position in the EU to block Turkey's European path. Turkey demands the lifting of the embargoes against the pseudo-state and its integration into the international system. At the same time, they acknowledge that there is a new president in the pseudo-state who may be open to different approaches, however, they estimate that no substantial willingness will emerge from the Greek Cypriot side.
