Turkey: 'Dismantling of Spy Network with Iranian Connections' and Claims Regarding Cyprus

Turkish authorities announced that they have dismantled a spy network with connections to Iran, arresting six individuals in five Turkish provinces. The network is accused of collecting sensitive information and planning potential attacks, including reconnaissance of the Incirlik Air Base. According to Turkish media, the network was guided by Iranian intelligence officials and recruited individuals to photograph and videotape the Incirlik base. Additionally, it allegedly planned to transport armed drones from Turkey to Cyprus, both to the Republic of Cyprus and to the Turkish-held areas. Investigations revealed that two of the suspects had been trained in Iran in the use of drones. The network's activities were covered up as commercial transactions in the drone sector. The six detainees have been remanded in custody and face charges of obtaining confidential state information for espionage purposes. Turkey's national intelligence agency, MIT, has carried out extensive operations against espionage and terrorism recently.
