Turk Cypriot Property Issues in Lefkara – “They Asked a Pregnant Woman for €15,000” (vid)

The Mayor of Lefkara, Sofoklis Sofokleous, reported serious incidents to the Parliament and on the SIGMA show “Protoseleido” regarding Turkish Cypriot properties in Lefkara. According to the reports, some of these properties are used for drug trafficking, others are illegally occupied, and in some cases, users are demanding money to vacate them. Specifically, it was reported that €15,000 and €25,000 were requested in two cases from users to leave the properties. In one incident, the owner requested the money from a pregnant woman. Mr. Sofokleous stated that he has been sending letters to the competent authorities since 2017 regarding the problem of mismanagement of Turkish Cypriot properties, but has received no response. He suggested to the authorities to register the Turkish Cypriot houses and properties, in order to determine who the legal beneficiaries are and to generate interest from them. The situation in Lefkara appears to be serious and requires immediate intervention from the authorities to restore legality and protect citizens.
