Trump to Zelensky: “I want the war to end within a month”

Donald Trump, in a phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed his desire for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine, stating that the conflict has lasted too long and he would like it to end within a month. Zelensky thanked him for US support and emphasized that Trump has the ability to persuade Putin to stop the war. The two leaders also discussed the possibility of a trilateral summit involving Ukraine, the US, and Russia, with Trump committing to work towards its organization. Simultaneously, talks are underway in Geneva between American and Ukrainian officials, with a potential Russian representative also participating, to find a solution. Negotiations focus on military and political issues, with progress made in the former, but the territorial issue remains a major point of contention. Russia insists on control of the Donbas region, while Ukraine rejects any territorial concessions. Zelensky emphasized that the difficulties are now political rather than military, while dismissing claims of Ukrainian nuclear ambitions. Trump has expressed his intention to seek a peace agreement by summer and offer security guarantees to Ukraine. However, the gap between Moscow and Kyiv remains significant, with the territorial issue being the biggest obstacle to achieving peace. The phone call and negotiations are part of a broader effort to end the war, which has entered its fifth year.
