Trump Threatens to Block Canada-US Bridge Construction

Donald Trump has threatened to block the completion and operation of the new bridge connecting the US (Detroit) with Canada (Windsor) unless the US receives “full compensation” for what it has provided to Canada and Canada shows more respect towards the US. Trump argues that the US should own at least half of the bridge, which costs 6.4 billion Canadian dollars and is expected to be operational in 2026. The bridge is fully funded by Canada but will be jointly owned by Canada and the state of Michigan. Simultaneously, Trump criticized Canada's intention to strengthen cooperation with China, warning that Beijing would “eat Canada alive.” These statements come amid heightened tensions in US-Canada relations, with Trump already threatening additional tariffs and questioning the certification of Canadian-made aircraft. The Cypriot Foreign Minister, Konstantinos Kombos, stated that Trump would be welcomed in Cyprus.
