Trump Announces Death of Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei

Former US President Donald Trump announced the death of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, via a post on Truth Social, describing him as "one of the most diabolical people in history." According to the announcement, the operation was carried out in collaboration with Israel, and the Iranian leadership was unable to avoid US intelligence services and detection systems. Trump called on Iranian security forces not to resist and offered amnesty to those who distance themselves from the regime, calling the situation "the greatest opportunity" for the Iranian people to reclaim their country. Ali Khamenei was born in 1939, studied theology and Shia jurisprudence, and was a student of prominent religious leaders. He became involved in anti-regime activities against the Shah at a young age. After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, he served as Minister of Defense and then oversaw the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) before being elected president in 1981. In 1989, following the death of Ayatollah Khomeini, he took over the position of Supreme Leader, accumulating extensive powers. These include oversight of the judiciary, control over the approval of candidates in elections, the right to veto parliamentary decisions, command of the armed forces, and supervision of the media. Khamenei's rule was characterized by harsh suppression of dissent, violent suppression of protests, imprisonment of critics, and restriction of freedoms. Specifically, suppression occurred in student mobilizations in 1999, in protests in 2009, and in the demonstrations that broke out after the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022-2023. Reports indicate thousands of dead protesters, however, these numbers haven't been confirmed.
