Tragic Fire in Thessaloniki Claims Life of Elderly Woman

A tragedy unfolded in Thessaloniki, specifically in Sochos, where an elderly woman was found charred inside her home, which was completely destroyed by a fire. The fire department received a call about the fire around 7:00 PM on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Twenty-two firefighters with nine vehicles rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames and rescue any trapped individuals. Unfortunately, during the firefighting operation, the woman's body was discovered, having sustained severe burns. The single-family home where the tragedy occurred was completely destroyed by the fire. The damage is extensive, and the area has been cordoned off for investigation. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact causes of the fire. Currently, no information is available regarding the cause of the fire, however, all possibilities are being considered, including electrical faults or negligence. The police have taken over the security of the area and the collection of testimonies.
