Tragedy at Sea: 22 Migrants Dead off Crete

A tragic incident unfolded off the coast of Crete, resulting in the deaths of 22 migrants, primarily from Sudan and Bangladesh. Their boat, which departed from Tobruk, Libya, six days prior, encountered severe weather conditions and a lack of supplies, leading to the gradual loss of life. The 26 survivors were rescued by a FRONTEX vessel and transported to Crete, while the two boat operators were arrested as traffickers. Survivor testimonies reveal that a total of 48 people were on board, with the deceased being thrown into the sea due to lack of food, water, and the cold. Two of the rescued individuals required hospital treatment, while the rest are being held at the port of Heraklion.
