“Toula”: Returns for Four Performances in Nicosia

The play “Toula” returns to Nicosia for four performances, presenting the life and work of Cypriot visual artist Toula Liasi. The performance is based on interviews with the artist herself, while also capturing historical events that influenced her life and art. Toula Liasi, born in Agia Triada Karpasia, distinguished herself in Greece and the Netherlands, where she settled, continuing to work in her birthplace as well. Her work focuses on the difficulties of Cypriot history, particularly on issues of missing and enclaved persons. The play, which has already received positive reviews ("simply shocking" and "ingenious"), is a one-woman show performed by Elena Agathokleous, directed and written by Diomidis Koufteros. The text is written in Cypriot dialect, based on the authentic interviews. The set design is by Eleni Ioannou, while the filming is undertaken by Volume Films. The performance has been previously presented at the State Gallery of Contemporary Art Majestic, at Xydadiko in Limassol, at the Theatre Techne in London and in Nicosia. The production team is supported by various organizations, including the MITOS Performing Arts Center and the newspaper “Kathimerini Cyprus”. The performances will take place on February 25, 26, 27 and 28, 2026 at 20:30 at ARTos House in Nicosia.
