The 'Iceberg' of the Controversial Video: Lakotrypis' 'Quid Pro Quo' with ADMIE, Questions About His Business Activities

A recently surfaced video has raised questions about the business activities of former Energy Minister Giorgos Lakotrypis after leaving office. The company in which Mr. Lakotrypis participates, as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors since 2021, is part of a larger group involved in the supply of copper and the construction of electrical cables. The second company in the group has contracts worth millions of euros with ADMIE. The company's articles of association emphasize that Mr. Lakotrypis meets all the criteria for assuming the position, including avoiding a conflict of interest. His resume mentions his experience as CEO of his own consulting firm, specializing in digital transformation, energy transition, and government affairs. His assumption of duties coincided with ADMIE's involvement in the Great Sea Interconnector. The company with Mr. Lakotrypis' participation appears to be linked to his duties as minister. He received approval from the relevant committee to participate, however, questions arise as to how the potential conflict of interest was investigated, given that Mr. Lakotrypis had spearheaded the EuroAsia Interconnector. The committee that gave the approval consisted of a Public Prosecutor, a Control Director at the Audit Office, and a Director of Accounting Services at the General Accounting Office. The case is under investigation and is expected to be further investigated by the competent authorities.
