Tension in Parliament over ONEK – "Strange Things" Alleged by AKEL

The Parliamentary Committee on Education discussed the budget of the Youth Organization of Cyprus (ONEK), submitted for approval by the Organization's President. The discussion was accompanied by tension regarding issues such as the medical care of staff and the existence of a supplementary collective agreement. The opposition, with AKEL, alleged “strange things” within ONEK, pointing to the resignation of members of the Board of Directors and accusations of direct assignments and misleading practices during budget preparation. Reference was also made to a pending case involving an employee of the Organization. The Youth of the Democratic Rally expressed concern about the dysfunction of the Organization and called on the government to take decisions.
