Tempi Train Crash Trial Begins – Proceedings Disrupted

The trial for the tragic train crash in Tempi, which claimed the lives of 57 people, began today. 36 individuals are accused, with 33 facing felony charges for dangerous interference in railway operations that led to the collision. The defendants are officials from OSE, ERGOSE, RAS, and Hellenic Train, as well as employees of the Larissa Railway Station and civil servants from the Ministry of Transport. The charges include negligent manslaughter, grievous bodily harm, and damage to public utilities. The trial is being held in a Conference Center due to the large number of defendants and the attendance of victims' families. There have been protests regarding the conditions of the trial, with requests for more space and better access for relatives. The court banned live broadcasting of the trial, but the proceedings are being transmitted via a closed circuit to a specially designated area for journalists. The trial was temporarily adjourned due to the protests and is expected to continue later.
