Syria: Last Kurdish Fighters Evacuate Aleppo

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), led by Kurdish groups, have announced the completion of their withdrawal from the Ashrafiya and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods in Aleppo, following an agreement with Syrian government forces. The agreement includes a ceasefire and the evacuation of wounded individuals, civilians, and fighters. The SDF withdrawal marks the end of Kurdish control over parts of Aleppo that had been held by Kurdish forces since the beginning of the Syrian civil war in 2011. The clashes between the SDF and government forces were the most intense seen in Syria's second-largest city. According to the Syrian news agency SANA, buses carrying SDF members departed from the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood heading towards northeastern Syria. This agreement appears to be part of a broader effort to end hostilities in the region. The Syrian army's capture of Sheikh Maqsoud strengthens the government's control over Syria's second-largest city and is a significant step in the effort to restore stability to the country.
