Syria Demands Lebanon Hand Over 200 Senior Officers, Reveals Reuters Investigation

Syrian authorities have requested Lebanese security forces to hand over more than 200 senior officers who fled to Lebanon after the fall of Bashar al-Assad. This request came after an extensive Reuters investigation revealed that Lebanon was used as a hub for conspiracies by dissidents. According to sources, Brigadier General Abdul Rahman al-Dabbagh met with Lebanese officials in Beirut to discuss the fate of the officers. The conspiracies involved funding potential Alawite fighting groups in Lebanon and along the Syrian coast, aiming to undermine the new Syrian government. The Reuters investigation showed that Rami Makhlouf and Major General Kamal Hassan, former officials living in exile in Moscow, are trying to incite uprisings in Syria by sending money to intermediaries in Lebanon. Their goal is to divide Syria and regain control of the coastal areas, where the Alawite population predominates. While Syrian authorities requested information and possible prosecution or extradition of the officers, some Lebanese officials deny receiving specific requests for handover. However, they confirm that the list of officers' names was discussed.
