Syria: Army Warns of Strikes Against Kurds in Aleppo, al-Sara Recognizes Kurdish Language

The Syrian army has issued a warning to residents of Aleppo about impending military strikes on Kurdish fighter positions in the Dayr Hafer area, a week after clashes resulted in casualties. Simultaneously, President Ahmad al-Sara issued a decree recognizing the Kurdish language as a national language and establishing the Kurdish New Year (Nawroz) as an official holiday. The decree also grants nationality to Kurds who had been excluded by the 1962 census. This move comes during a deadlock in talks to integrate Kurdish military and political institutions into the Syrian state, following an agreement signed in March 2025.
