Supreme Court: “No” to Cancelling Arrest Warrant for Domestic Violence

The Supreme Court of Cyprus rejected a request to cancel an arrest warrant for offenses of domestic violence and violence against women, which had been issued by the Limassol District Court on December 28, 2025. The applicant argued that there was no reasonable suspicion of committing the offenses and that the arrest was not necessary. However, the court ruled that reasonable suspicion existed, based on the complainant's report, which described various incidents of violence, including assault causing bodily harm. Furthermore, the court noted that previous incidents of violence were more serious than the latest one, and that the issuance of the arrest warrant was necessary to protect the complainant and her children, as well as to ensure the smooth conduct of the investigation.
