Strong 6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Peru: At Least 25 Injured

A strong earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale, struck Peru on Saturday night, resulting in at least 25 injuries and damage to buildings. The seismic activity occurred offshore near the city of Chimbote, in the Ancash region, north of Lima. The general hospital in Chimbote, as well as schools and homes, sustained damage, with videos circulating on social media showing cracks in buildings and goods scattered on store floors. Peru is located in a highly seismic zone, known as the Pacific Ring of Fire. A devastating earthquake in 1970, also in the Ancash region, caused the deaths of 67,000 people.
