Stefanos Stefanou: Cyprus is a Safe Destination

Stefanos Stefanou, General Secretary of AKEL, described Cyprus as a safe destination for visitors, emphasizing the need for an information campaign abroad and ensuring connectivity with international tourist markets. During a tour in Paphos, he visited the international airport and met with parliamentary candidates and party officials. Stefanou also referred to the need to address potential unemployment if tourist units are affected by regional conflicts, proposing the strengthening of domestic tourism support programs. He stressed that domestic tourism should not be neglected only during times of crisis. Regarding the economic consequences of the war, the AKEL Secretary-General proposed controlling energy prices by permanently reducing VAT on electricity (from 19% to 5%), abolishing double taxation on fuels, and promoting structural changes to diversify the energy mix. He expressed disappointment with the government's position, which characterizes AKEL's proposals as populist, emphasizing that they are costed and documented. In conclusion, he called on the government to develop scenarios for all eventualities and avoid refusing dialogue. Stefanou also visited the Municipalities of Paphos and Yeroskipou, as well as workplaces.
