Spray System Fully Operational in Timi to Prevent Foot-and-Mouth Disease

The spray system in the Timi area is now fully operational as part of measures to strengthen the prevention of foot-and-mouth disease in the livestock zone. Deputy Mayor George Polycarpou described the initiative as “substantial and timely”. This move comes during a period of increased concern about the possibility of foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks in Cyprus. The spray system works in conjunction with existing biosecurity measures already in place on livestock farms. The goal is to protect local production and support livestock farmers, as foot-and-mouth disease can have serious economic and productive consequences. The Municipality of Ierokipia is in constant communication with the relevant state services to ensure proper coordination and a prompt response if additional action is required. Prevention is considered the most effective weapon against contagious zoonoses such as foot-and-mouth disease. In the Timi area, the system systematically covers the livestock zone, providing an additional level of protection. The operation of the system is a significant effort to protect animal and human health, as well as to maintain the sustainability of the region's agricultural economy.
