Spain Says 'No' to Using Bases for Attacks on Iran – US Aircraft Depart

Spain has refused to allow the use of its military bases for attacks on Iran, resulting in the departure of fifteen US aircraft from Rota and Morón bases. Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated that Spanish bases will not be used for operations that are not in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations. According to reports, nine refueling aircraft departed from Morón base for Germany, while other aircraft were transferred to France. Spain's stance, combined with the strong condemnation of US-Israeli actions in Iran by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, makes it an exception in the region. Spain insists that its bases will only be used for agreed-upon operations with the United States and in accordance with international law. This decision may further strain its relations with Washington. The Spanish refusal to participate in potential attacks on Iran underscores the importance of maintaining peace and avoiding escalation of tensions in the region.
