“Social Housing” Project Creates New Realities in Occupied Territories

Construction of “social housing” continues in the occupied territories, a project linked to encouraging new couples from Turkey to address their housing problems. The project is primarily funded by Turkish resources. Construction is at an advanced stage in occupied Morphou, with settlements planned in Rizokarpaso (in two locations) and Famagusta. Additionally, “social housing” is planned in Lefka, Kyrenia, East Nicosia, Mesaoria, Trikomo and Gerolakkos. Although presented as a solution to the housing problem, the project in reality constitutes the imposition of new realities on the ground, aiming to alter the demographic character of the area. The works are progressing rapidly, indicating Turkey’s firm commitment to the plan, despite international reactions and accusations of violating international law.
