Significant Changes to GeSY: Longer Referral Durations, Barcode Prescriptions

The Health Insurance Organization (HIO) is implementing significant upgrades to the information system of the General Health System (GeSY) from midnight on Thursday, March 26th, with the aim of improving patient service and modernizing services. The changes include the introduction of barcodes on prescriptions, extending the validity of referrals for laboratory tests, and creating a special digital registry for patients with Multiple Sclerosis. Beneficiaries will be able to find the barcode of their prescription electronically through the Beneficiary Portal and show it to the pharmacist to fulfill the prescription. For chronic patients, the code can be saved as an image on their device for future use. The validity period of referrals for laboratory tests is being extended from 6 to 12 months to facilitate chronic patients who visit their doctors at infrequent intervals. In addition, patients with Multiple Sclerosis will be able to visit their neurologists directly without a referral, once they are registered in the special digital registry. These changes are part of a broader effort by the HIO to digitize health services and improve the patient experience.
