Shrove Thursday in Nicosia: Samba, Tram, and a Festive Atmosphere

Nicosia enthusiastically entered the carnival season, with the Municipality organizing a large celebration for the first time in the square of the New Town Hall. The carnival tram, with music and dance, toured the center, while citizens and Municipality employees celebrated Shrove Thursday together in the square, with many people dressed up in costumes. The Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, expressed his satisfaction with the organization and emphasized the aim of revitalizing the city center. He also mentioned the large carnival parade on Sunday, which is expected to attract thousands of participants, including children from special schools and groups with companion animals. Actor Michalis Sofocleous, King Carnival of Nicosia, called on people to participate in Sunday's parade, predicting a big celebration in the city. This year's parade is expected to break participation records, with approximately 7-8 thousand carnival participants and organized floats. The organization of Shrove Thursday marked the beginning of the carnival in Nicosia, with a relaxed and festive atmosphere. The Municipality's initiative aimed to bring life to the city center and unite citizens in a common festive spirit.
