Severe Blizzard Hits New York – Chaos in Flights, Roads, and Power Supply

A powerful blizzard struck New York and New Jersey, placing the areas in a state of emergency. The severe weather caused mass flight cancellations and delays, with significant disruptions at airports in the region. Road traffic was disrupted, with closed roads and traffic accidents, and authorities urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel. The storm, which began on Friday and continued into Saturday, brought heavy snowfall, freezing rain, and strong winds to much of the northeastern US and the Great Lakes region. By Saturday afternoon, over 5,500 flights had been delayed and at least 860 canceled. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported significant delays for flights landing at JFK, causing cascading problems throughout the US air transport network. Warnings and emergency bulletins were issued for areas from New York to Philadelphia, urging citizens to be cautious due to dangerous conditions. The bad weather hit the region just before the expected peak of holiday travel, with approximately 2.86 million passengers expected to travel by air on Sunday. The governors of New York and New Jersey declared a state of emergency, calling on citizens to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel. In addition, widespread power outages were reported in Michigan due to ice accumulation.
