Setbacks for Paphos – Geroskipou Coastal Front

There is a risk of failure for the project to protect the Paphos – Geroskipou coastal front, as a private individual has secured a permit to build a private marina in the heart of the tourist area. This permit, issued by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, concerns a marina with a capacity of 150 boats and has caused significant concern among Paphos stakeholders. The Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeades, stressed that the protection of the coastal front is a priority for the government, but pledged to convene a meeting with all stakeholders to clarify the issue of the private marina and determine whether it will affect the public project. He stated that he was unaware of the issuance of the permit by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. Municipalities and hotel associations have expressed strong opposition to the prospect of building a private marina in the area. At the same time, the Minister of Transport assured that major infrastructure projects in Paphos are proceeding normally, including the Polis Chrysochous – Paphos road and the 3rd lane of the existing road. In addition, the progress of the studies for the Chloraka – Kissonerga – Peyeia avenue and the decision to implement the airport road as part of the upgrading of the airbase were reported.
