Sentence Increased for Sexual Abuse of a Child Following Prosecution Appeal

The prison sentence of a man for the sexual abuse of a minor has been increased from 13 to 15 years following an appeal by the prosecution. The initial sentence was deemed insufficient by the Attorney General. The report was made five years after the acts, when the child was able to understand what had happened. The defendant had been convicted of six counts of rape and sexual abuse. The Court of Appeal rejected the defendant's appeal and approved the increase in the sentence. The court emphasized that the defendant, as the child's father and sole guardian, abused his position of trust. The decision takes into account the serious consequences of the defendant's actions, including the child's need to leave their family and receive psychological support. In addition, orders were issued for monitoring the convicted person after his release and for prohibiting contact with children.
