Self-Consumption of Electricity Not Abolished or Suspended

The Association of Renewable Energy Companies of Cyprus (SEAPEK) clarifies that the self-consumption of electricity from photovoltaic systems is not abolished or suspended, regardless of the existence or absence of a Grant Scheme. Consumers can proceed with the installation of photovoltaics and reduce their energy costs, while retaining their rights to potentially participate in future programs. This clarification was made due to the confusion caused by the incorrect equating of Grant Schemes with the Self-Consumption Framework. Grant Schemes are public policy tools with specific goals, while the Self-Consumption Framework concerns the terms of the commercial agreement between consumer and supplier. As of January 1st, 2026, the netting of production and consumption is not abolished, but the way surplus energy channeled into the grid is compensated changes. At the same time, the new tax reform introduces tax incentives for the energy upgrading of homes, including the installation of photovoltaics, with potential tax deductions of up to €10,000 for couples. SEAPEK emphasizes that self-consumption remains a key tool for reducing energy costs and strengthening the energy autonomy of households, calling for informed and transparent dialogue on energy issues.
