Schengen: Brunner Optimistic About Cyprus's Inclusion - “Solutions for the Green Line Too”

European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, expressed optimism about Cyprus's inclusion in the Schengen area during a press conference in Nicosia following the Informal Meeting of EU Ministers of Justice and Home Affairs. Mr. Brunner stated that solutions can be found for the specificities of Cyprus, including the Green Line, which however is not a border. The Deputy Minister for Migration and International Protection, Nicolas Ioannidis, emphasized that Cyprus has the right to carry out checks along the Green Line based on a specific legal framework. In addition, the Commissioner referred to developments in migrant returns to Syria, with over three million Syrians having returned and Frontex support for approximately 6,000 voluntary returns.
