Salt Consumption Linked to Premature Skin Aging

Excessive salt intake, beyond its association with high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases, can negatively impact skin health. Experts state that too much salt can cause dryness, swelling, and dullness, while also interfering with collagen production, the protein responsible for maintaining skin firmness and hydration. High blood pressure, linked to excessive sodium consumption, weakens skin tissue and accelerates aging. Furthermore, salt causes fluid retention, leading to swelling, but also dehydration, resulting in dryness and wrinkles. Research indicates a connection between sodium intake and the worsening of eczema. To protect the skin, it is recommended to limit ultra-processed foods and cook at home with controlled amounts of salt.
