Sa Pinto Takes Refuge in Iranian Embassy: 'Difficult to Leave Now'

Portuguese coach Ricardo Sá Pinto, current coach of Esteghlal FC of Iran, has announced that he has taken refuge in the Portuguese Embassy in Tehran due to serious communication problems in recent days. In a video posted on social media, he stated that for six days he has had no access to the internet or telephone signal. Sa Pinto expressed his concern about the situation in Iran, describing the country on the brink of war. However, he stated that it is difficult to leave at this time and he wishes to remain to continue coaching his team, if conditions allow. He and his coaching staff are in a safe environment at the embassy, but are anxiously awaiting to understand the developments. Sa Pinto is known to the Cypriot public from his coaching tenure at APOEL.
