Rubio: Return of US Diplomatic Presence to Venezuela

Marco Rubio stated that Venezuela's new leaders are moving to build closer ties with the US, following the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro by American forces. Maduro is accused of drug trafficking and has been transferred to New York for trial. His vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, has taken over as interim president and has signed agreements with the US on oil and hydrocarbon exploitation, while releasing political prisoners. However, Rodríguez has expressed opposition to continued US pressure. Rubio reports that the US government has established a “respectful and productive” dialogue with the new leaders and is considering reopening a US diplomatic mission in Venezuela in the near future, aiming to limit the influence of Russia, China, and Iran in the country.
