Residents Protest Energy Storage Park in Alambra

Residents of Alambra are strongly protesting the licensing of an 80 MWh Energy Storage Park (ESP) in the Rotseri area, alleging a lack of consultation with the community. The project involves the placement of 24 large containers in a residential area, with one house located just 40 meters away. Studies that have come to light highlight serious risks to residents and the degradation of the area, which is close to the Lympia-Alambra dam and a Natura area. Additionally, concerns are raised about negative impacts on the entire community. The creation of the first ESP in Cyprus in Alambra creates a negative precedent, as the area is characterized by its greenery and picturesque nature. At the same time, there is increased interest in the construction of other similar facilities due to its proximity to the EAC substation. The community points out that the area had been proposed for the location of a new Technical School, an election commitment of the President of the Republic. For this purpose, an “Action Committee” has been established with the aim of canceling the licenses and preventing new licensing.
