Renowned Cypriot chef Andreas Mavrommatis passed away on Saturday night (14/03) at the age of 69. Mavrommatis was the co-owner of Maison Mavrommátis, a chain of restaurants and delicatessen stores based in France and awarded with a Michelin star. Born in a rural village, he began his career in Paris, where he founded a successful business of Greek products and restaurants, promoting Cypriot and Greek gastronomy. Maison Mavrommátis today has 4 restaurants and 9 stores in Paris, Nice (France) and Marseille (France), and also has a factory for the production of Greek products. Mavrommatis was awarded a Michelin star in 2018 for his creative cuisine. The President of Cyprus expressed his sorrow for the death of Mavrommatis, emphasizing that he remained deeply connected to his roots and promoted Cypriot culture abroad. Mavrommatis curated the gala dinner of the Greek Cuisine Awards in 2019, and his restaurant in Limassol was awarded a Gold Cap.
